The Quietness of the Morning
Date Posted: September 27, 2009

In the quietness of the morning reading scripture can bring a quietness and peace to our entire being as we approach our day. If we allow the Holy Spirit to speak through the word and in prayer we may receive a word that we will need later in the day without realizing it. For years I was an account executive which required me to meet with various clients each day. I remember one day in particular when I scheduled an appointment with an angry client that I had inherited from another account executive. I arrived for my appointment and as I sat in my meeting the client began to yell and was very, very upset about a business situation. I sat and quietly listened wondering what to do next and pondered how to handle the situation. Slowly these words began to surface in my mind and heart, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger, Proverbs 15:1." Following these thoughts I politely asked the client, "Out of everything you just shared with me what is the most important issue to your company that I can assist you in solving?" Immediately his anger disappeared. He sat in a chair across from me and we began to professionally discuss a solution. In the quietness of the morning God prepared me for my meeting with an angry client.

Prayer; "Lord I ask for your Holy Spirit to nudge me each morning to spend time with you to prepare for my day. I ask that you teach me as I read your word and pray. Help me to be open to the guiding of the Holy Spirit. May I be found faithful in placing you first before all else in my life. "But the Counselor the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14:26)
