The Still Small Voice
Date Posted: April 3, 2011

Arriving on my doorstep this morning is something that was not on my to do list of things to do for the day. It came as a quietness and a peace, that speaks the words all is well with my soul. I am recalling my trips to Washington and my ride on the ferry on Puget Sound as I gaze at a picture taken from the ferry. This picture was taken as I stood on the front deck of the ferry as it glided across Puget Sound. This area is a writer and photographers dream. I would love to spend one full day on the ferry gliding back and forth across the sound, take pictures, write and record my thoughts. God willing maybe one day I will spend time on the sound gliding back and forth across the water.

As I sit quietly I also recall what it was like to glide across the water, viewing the mountains, the sound and the feeling of quiet that enveloped my entire being. Seattle comes into view as we round a bend in the sound. A magnificent view of God's creation as the Ferry quietly glides across the water. Although as I write this I am not ferrying across Puget sound I look at the picture again and think of the still small voice, the voice of God. Once again I begin to feel the stirrings of a new direction. Just as Abraham knew he was leaving for a land that he did not know, I believe my leaving day is quietly drawing near.

1 Kings 19:10-13, Amplified
10He replied, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the Israelites have forsaken Your covenant, thrown down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I, I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
11And He said, Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord. And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake;
12And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a sound of gentle stillness and] a still, small voice.
13When Elijah heard the voice, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, What are you doing here, Elijah?
