The Sun Shines In The Glassed In Room
Date Posted: April 12, 2009

Many of my hours are spent in a glassed in room also known as what we call in the Mid-West a 3 season room. When it is warm enough to venture out into this area I gather my latest writing project, teaching, or preaching preparation and set up my office in this area. This area is such a blessing to me as the sun pours in through the windows. For years I was a sales representative and spent daily time out and about whether the sun was shining, it was raining, snowing, hot or cold, whatever the weather, my job required me to spend time in and out of commercial buildings and driving through our city. I had no idea I was attached to the outdoors and the sun until my company closed in 2005 and I was no longer out and about. By 2006 I moved into some one's basement out of financial necessity and it was here I found out, "I love to see the outdoors, I can see the ground by looking out a small window near the ceiling, but that's it!" I only lived in this basement for a few months, but it was a daily battle with depression when I would wake to darkness and come home to darkness until I turned on the light. It is for this reason, "I love my glassed in room!"
As I write this I am reminded of the days I lived in the darkness of a different kind. It was a darkness without God. Yet,I had no idea I was in darkness, until I stepped into the light. What was the light? The light was the love of Jesus Christ. When I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior long ago the darkness that I had no idea was around me and inside of me disappeared.
I had no idea or did others that once I made this decision and became a Christian that I would one day attend a Christian University, Preach and teach in various areas and now for the last couple of years instead of traveling in my area or outside of it I would begin to take the piles of files, full filing cabinet and my preaching/teaching material and begin to write and use it to equip and train others. Today as I sit in my glassed in 3 season room with the sun shining in the Mid-West I am reminded of the verses in Luke 11:33-36; NLT

No one lights a lamp and then hides it or puts it under a basket. Instead, it is put on a lampstand to give light to all who enter the room. Your eye is a lamp for your body. A pure eye lets sunshine into your soul. But an evil eye shuts out the light and plunges you into darkness. Make sure that the light you think you have is not really darkness. If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight is shining on you.

May our lights shine out to others as we live the life God has called us to live. May we be willing to speak words of truth with a gentle spirit of compassion as we begin to speak to those who do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
