Where Is Our Hope?
Date Posted: June 29, 2008

Lately as we read the world news we find that our world is in an unstable condition. Earthquakes, typhoons, tornados, thunderstorms, fires out of control, floods, famine, disease, and war. It seems to be everywhere. Yet, as christians we have a hope that goes beyond the current world circumstances. According to the world's way of thinking there is no hope. In the last 2 years I have sat in two business meetings and listened to the guest speakers use the words, "There is no hope." These words cut deeply into my heart as I thought of the discouragement that these men were bringing down upon the people in attendance. Although these men stated, "There is no hope," they were offering a hope in a material product. Money was the answer to all of the world's problems.

As a christian I wanted to stand up and shout to the 100 people in attendance, "Don't listen to these men! There is a hope and that hope is found in Jesus Christ! He is our answer in a world that seems to be shaking apart at the seams." Instead I prayed through the entire meeting and prior to my leaving quietly spoke my beliefs to the leader of the first meeting and shared with a partner of the second. There was no argument only a quietness as the conversation between us died.

As christians living in todays world when we hear the words spoken, "There is no hope," we must remember, "yes there is a hope." The hope we have is found in Jesus Christ. When Paul spoke to Timothy he addressed him with these words, "Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ our hope. (1 Timothy 1:10)

When our hope seems to falter as we serve in our world we can always return to God's word and allow him to remind us that, "Yes our hope is in him."

Psalm 39:7; And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.

Psalm 71:5; For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth.

Psalm 119:147; I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help; I hope in your word.

Lamentations 3:26; It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Prayer; Dear Lord we come to you today to acknowledge that there are days that the thoughts of our minds and our feelings may drift to hopelessness. Yet, we know that if we place our trust in you that you are our hope and you have not left us alone in this world to fend for ourselves. Please forgive us when we have given in to the worlds view of a hopeless world. Give us the strength to carry on and help us to be an encouragement to others. In the precious name of Jesus Christ we bring this prayer to you.
