He Is King
Date Posted: August 4, 2004

There is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
1 John 5:14 NKJV

Do you worry? I think I would be hard pressed to find even one person who doesn't worry about something. It is a critical moment when the temptation to worry knocks on your door. I believe each of us has a tendency to entertain it. We may hesitate at opening the door, but eventually we open the door and let it in and it sits down on the couch and gets comfortable. And before you know it, worry has made itself at home.

Worry must be stopped.

First things first, God is King and He is in control.

He looks to the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens.
Job 28:24 NASB

God commands us not to worry.

For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
Matthew 6:25 NIV

When you worry, you are assuming responsibilities for things God never intended for you to handle, because they are His. He is in control.

So, why do we worry? I know from personal experience, I worry the most when things happen to me that are beyond my control.

But guess what? Most things are beyond our control because our lives can easily be impacted by situations, circumstances, events and people – things we don't have control over. Never have, never will.

Let's say you're driving down the road, minding your own business, obeying all the laws, and BOOM, a car comes out of no where and hits you. Now your car is wrecked and it's not your fault. The wreck was beyond your control but it affects your life. Or, let's say you have a really good job, one you really enjoy and wouldn't consider leaving, and then BOOM, all of a sudden they decide to cut back and your job gets eliminated. Again out of your control and definitely impacts your life. (I can personally relate to this one… it just happened to me.) Or let's say someone close to you, who seems perfectly healthy, goes in for a check up and BOOM they find out they have cancer. Again, out of your control – but has an impact on your life. All of these things can cause you to worry because of the uncertainty involved and because the situation is out of your control but affects you. This kind of stuff happens every day and no one is immune.

But God tells us to cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us. (1 Peter 5:7)

God is bigger than any thing and any one in the world.
He is the creator of the universe.
He set the stars in place.
He is in charge and in control of every single detail of your life.
He loves you so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for you (and me).

With someone like that on your side, what's there to really worry about?

In light of eternity, it doesn't seem quite so big, does it?

Father God, I am praying today, in this hour, in this minute, in this second, for you to show each and every one of us evidence of You and Your master plan for each of us. Let us not get lost in the details, but to instead trust You in the overall end result – which is to one day be in Your presence, surrounded by Your glory. Speak to those who are hurting Lord, who are worried about the details. Give each of them comfort and strength for today. I ask these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen!
