He Knows
Date Posted: March 21, 2007

O LORD, you have searched me
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
Psalm 139:1-2 NIV

Have you ever felt like God was far away from you?

I have.

Sometimes I wonder how can God know me, and you, and you, and you, etc.? It's hard to imagine someone so BIG, so OMNIPOTENT. It's beyond my comprehension and sometimes I just want to understand - I want to know how that is possible. If I can't figure it out, solve it or understand it, then I just don't want to deal with it.

I have trouble with relating to someone who knows me intimately. It's scary to think that He can know my thoughts - because sometimes my thoughts are not very nice.

And yet I do believe. I have faith. Faith is what allows me to believe. It means I don't have to understand. It means I simply trust and do not doubt.

And somehow, despite by thoughts - He loves me anyway. In fact, He loves me so much He died for me. And not just me... He died for you too.

He died so each person - and that includes everyone - no matter where they live, no matter how much money they have or don't have, no matter how much education you have or don't have - can have a personal relationship with Him.

Is something keeping you from getting to know Him?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
Psalm 139:8-10 NIV

Have you ever felt like you were really far away from God?

I have.

Sometimes it's because I get so busy with "life" that I don't give Him my attention. Just like any relationship, if you don't invest time in it, you start to grow apart.

In order for a relationship to grow, you must spend time with that person. The same is true of your relationship with God. It is in spending time with Him that the relationship grows and you truly get to experience intimacy with Him.

One of the most amazing things to me is that He is always there - no matter what. It doesn't matter how far away I am - He is there.

Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24 NIV

For me, I go through times of feeling like God is far from me and times when I feel like I am far from Him. When the truth is... He's always there. Always! He knows when I wake up and when I go to sleep. He knows my thoughts and feelings. He knows me better than anyone knows me... He knows me better than I even know myself. He knows the good and the bad about me. And through it all... He still loves me.

It is because of this truth that I sincerely want to know Him better. I want to give Him my full attention. I want to always be in conversation with Him.

I know in spending time with Him, He will lead me where I need to go.

Father God, thank you so much for creating me, for knowing me, and for loving me. I know it's not because of anything I have done or anything I will do. It simply is because You choose it to be so. You are worthy of all praise and honor for esteeming us to be your children and making us Your heirs. You are mighty and wonderful. Thank you! Amen!
