Is There Room?
Date Posted: April 19, 2006

And Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David, to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant.
While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. Then she gave birth to her firstborn Son, and she wrapped Him snugly in cloth and laid Him in a feeding trough—because there was no room for them at the inn.
Luke 2:4-7 (HCSB)

Christmas is finally here. Are you excited to see this day arrive or happy that it's almost over? Have you found yourself caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season? Have you stressed over the sending of Christmas cards, shopping for the perfect gifts, finding time to wrap the presents, going to and fro? Yet, despite the excitement of this joyous holiday – deep within many of our hearts there is a sense of guilt. We have forgotten what Christmas is all about.

How easy it is to push aside the real meaning of Christmas. I am afraid we are in danger of losing the true purpose in celebrating Christmas - the birth of our Lord and Savior – Jesus Christ.

Has your life become much like the congested inn in Bethlehem – too crowded for Jesus – no room for Him?

Unfortunately, the world has never had room for Jesus. In Bethlehem there was no room for Him at the inn – so he was born in a feeding trough. In Nazareth He was rejected and driven out of town. In Jerusalem they crucified Him on a cross and buried Him in a borrowed tomb.

Still today there is no room for Jesus. There's no room for Him in our government. There's not room for Him in our schools. There's no room for Him in our media. And now it seems there's no room for Him in our homes.

I guess we shouldn't be surprised. Isaiah prophesied this: He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He was like one people turned away from; He was despised, and we didn't value Him. 53:3 (HCSB)

The world expected a general –they were given a child. They were expecting a ceremonial crowning of a king –they were given a star. They were expecting a victory over their enemies – they were given the gift of love.

What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him?
What can I give Him?
What can I give Him?
I can give Him my heart.

What are you expecting this Christmas?

If you have everything except Christ, you still have nothing; but if you have little else besides Christ, you have everything!

This Christmas – if you haven't given Him your heart – I ask you, why not? There's nothing else this Christmas - that you could give - that would be more important, more life-changing – than to give Him your heart.

You can be saved today by simply repenting of your sin and believing in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. It all starts with praying a prayer like this: Lord Jesus, there is room in my heart for you. Please forgive me. I know I am a sinner, unable to save myself and desperately in need of a Savior. Save me. Jesus, I do believe you are the Son of God. I do believe you paid my sin debt in full with Your life and the shedding of Your blood on the cross. I believe God raised you from the dead. I long to have a personal relationship with You forever. This Christmas – I give you my heart. Amen.

Merry Christmas!
