I know, O LORD, that a man's life is not his own;
it is not for man to direct his steps.
Jeremiah 10:23 NIV
Most days I think of my life as my own. I make my own decisions - like what time to get up, what to wear, and even what route to take to work - and I never give these decisions a second thought.
And yet over 10 years ago, I made a decision to give my life to Jesus. I invited Him into my life and asked Him to be Lord of my life. I submitted myself to Him.
How quickly and how easily I forget.
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?
Luke 9:24-25 NIV
My life? Who's life? His life.
He gave His life for me. He gave His life for you. He gave His life for each and every one of us.
What good is it to gain this world if it means I lose myself, I lose my life? This world? Think about the world we live in - dark, sin-filled, crime-laden, dark, dreary, pain, sorrow, sadness, death, destruction, disease. But this world also has a silver lining - the sunshine that pokes out from the clouds, the ocean waves that crash against the rocks, the rainbow that fills the sky after the rain. I believe these are little and subtle reminders that God loves us - and that no matter how bad it gets - He's still in control. We simply have to trust Him.
I pray this is something I can remember and walk in every day.
My life has been filled with ups and downs. Some days better than others. Some years better than others. But no matter what, I know my life is not my own. God has directed my steps. I trust Him. This is the life He has chose for me and I don't regret it - not one single moment.
Father God, help us to always remember this precious gift of life you have given us and let us not waste a single moment, a single breath - cursing the darkness, but instead, let us lift You up and praise You - for the life You gave was Your own - just so we could live.
I love you Jesus! I give you my life!
