What do you want?
Date Posted: January 30, 2007
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do for us whatever we ask."
"What do you want me to do for you?" he asked.
They replied, "Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory."
Mark 10:35-37 NIV

"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see."
"Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
Mark 10:51-52 NIV

In Mark 10, verses 36,51, Jesus asks the same question "What do you want me to do for you?"

Can you imagine Jesus standing in front of you in this very moment and asking you that question?

What would you say to Him?

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 NIV

His word tells us that if we ask, we will receive.

"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.
For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
Matthew 18:19-20 NIV

Does that mean that we can ask Him for anything and He will do it?

No. If it is within His will and we ask, then yes, He will do it. But He will never go against His nature.

I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
John 14:12-14 NIV

His purpose is to bring glory to God... not to you or to me.

I suppose that's why He did not answer James and John when they asked about sitting on his right or left.

However, that's exactly why He answered Bartimaeus' prayer when he asked to see. In answering this man's prayer, God was glorified.

Now, think again, if Jesus were to stand in front of you and ask you, "what do you want me to do for you?" Can you think of something that would bring glory to God?

I can.

There are several people who are very near and dear to me and yet they do not know the Jesus I know. It is my desire that they know Him as I know Him - as the Lord of my life, as my personal Savior and Redeemer... as the one who can Restore all things.

My prayer is that God would use any and all means possible to reveal Himself to them. Perhaps that might be through me, or maybe through a miracle, or through someone else. However, I know it is God's will that all shall know Him and that none shall perish. So, I am asking and I am believing.

I know God hears this prayer and in His time He will answer it.

So, do you have a prayer request that if answered it would bring glory to God? If so, start asking Him right now! Get on your knees and cry out to Him. He is waiting for you to call on Him. Trust Him! He is faithful to answer.
