Being thankful for the sacrifice!
Date Posted: November 12, 2003

Yesterday our nation observed Veteran's Day. Originally this day was set aside by President Woodrow Wilson to commemorate the termination of the hositilities in World War I (11:00 a.m., November 11, 1918) and to eulogize the war dead.

On November 11, 1921, an American unknown soldier was entombed with special ceremonies in Arlington National Cemetary in Virginia. Since that time Veteran's Day has received a broader significance in honoring all U.S. Veterans.

On this day I pause to reflect about how thankful I am for my grandfather, my father-in-law, my uncles, my brother-in-law, and my son-in-law who served our country sacrificially so that my family and I might enjoy the glorious freedoms that surround us.

How thankful I am for family members of our church who are currently in active duty...Jason Smith (Iraq), Zach Smith (Ft. Stewart), Mark Pearce (Ft. Campbell), Michael Bigelow (Chaplain).

How thankful I am for the men and women of our church family who call themselves 'veterans' and wear the name 'American' with pride.

How thankful I am for the President of our United States who is not afraid to lead our country 'back to the basics'.

How thankful I am to live in 'one nation under God'.

How thankful I am for this nation and the freedom to worship and celebrate the One True Living God.

Willl you join me in prayer today in expressing to our Almighty God our gratitude ...

  • for the privilege of living in this great land
  • for those who have given their very lives in the name of 'freedom'
  • for all our veterans
  • for God's protection & blessing upon the men & women who are currently serving in the armed forces around the world
  • for God's wisdom to flow through President George Bush and his staff
  • for our nation to turn our hearts back to HIM

"God bless America! Land that I love.
Stand beside her and guide her through the night with the light from above.
From the mountains...to the prairies...to the oceans white with foam.
God bless America! My home sweet home!
God bless America! My home sweet home!"
