Cheering for a winner!
Date Posted: January 7, 2004

I just can't let this event go by unnoticed...HOW ABOUT THOSE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES??!!! What a joyous victory! However, my heartfelt sympathy certainly is extended to all the University of Michigan and University of Tennessee fans who are in deep, deep mourning!

Whether your team won or lost or maybe never even made it to a Bowl game...I think you'll agree with me that there is nothing quite like being in a college football stadium on a brisk Saturday afternoon in the autumn. The music of the marching band echoes through the stands. The stomps and cheers of approving fans are thunderously loud. And a hard-fought victory demands an appropriate response.

Christians have even more reason to celebrate. What Jesus accomplished on the cross is far more important than any game. Although He was sidelined for three days...He returned from the grave to erase any doubt as to what He had done. Once and for all, Jesus WON our eternal salvation and DEFEATED death.

So we owe Him our praise. We hail Him - King of kings - who will one day open the scrolls and usher the end of history as we know it. And we will be with Him forever because of what He has done for us.

It's our privilege to celebrate His victory with songs of praise, expressions of joy, and prayers of gratitude. His love truly does free us to sing. So how about it? Have you sung yet today?

"Sing praises to God, sing praises;
Sing praises to our King, sing praises.
For God is the King of all the earth;
Sing to Him a song of praise."
-Psalms 47:6-7 (NIV)
