Honoring the right person!
Date Posted: February 1, 2006

It is said that during World War II there was a Greek immigrant, by the name of Gus, who walked from Lewiston, Idaho all the way to Washington, D. C. This man dearly loved his adopted country. He was too old to fight, but he wanted to find a way to help pay for the freedom he enjoyed. Gus decided he would use his feet and his willpower to raise money for the war effort. He asked his family and friends to give a penny to the war effort for every mile he walked.

Although the trip took Gus several months, by the time he neared the nation's capitol, news of the Greek American had reached the President. He and the First Lady sent word to the weary walker that they would like to have dinner with him at the White House.

WOW! Can you imagine the excitement that pounded in Gus's heart as he entered the Presidential mansion at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?! During the meal the President and the First Lady asked him several questions - but Gus deflected every question as he simply wanted to enjoy the ambiance and pay his respects to the leader of the free world.

As Christians...when we enter our respective church buildings for worship & Bible study...we are to do so with a sense of celebration and respect. Our concerns and preferences are to take a back pew! Worship is an invitation to forget about ourselves and magnify the Lord! WORSHIP IS ALL ABOUT GOD!!

So...how about you?? When you stroll through the doors of your church this coming Sunday morning...will you be prepared to focus on forgetting about yourself, magnify the Lord, and worship Him wholeheartedly??

May it be so!!

There is a praise song that reminds us ...
"Let's forget about ourselves and magnify the Lord and worship Him.
Let's forget about ourselves and magnify the Lord and worship Him.
Let's forget about ourselves and magnify the Lord and worship Him.
Oh, worship Him - - Jesus Christ our Lord!"

"Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, making music to the Lord in your hearts. And you will always give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
- Ephesians 5:19-20 (NLT)
