Of Sheep and Shepherds!
Date Posted: June 15, 2005

I learned something recently and maybe you didn't know this either...but sheep aren't very smart!

Just think about this...sheep tend to wander into running creeks for water, then their wool gets wet and heavy and they drown. They need a shepherd to lead them to 'calm water'. (Psalm 23:2)

Also, sheep have absolutely no sense of direction. They need someone to lead them 'on paths that are right'. (Psalm 23:3)

Sheep have no natural defense - no claws, no horns, no fangs. They are totally helpless. Sheep need a shepherd with a 'rod and...walking stick' to protect them. (Psalm 23:4)

Come to think of it...I'M A LOT LIKE THESE SHEEP! I, too, tend to be swept away by waters of temptation that I should have avoided. Just like the sheep, I most certainly am prone to getting lost. And I am pretty defenseless against the evil lion who prowls around seeking for someone to devour.

I NEED A SHEPHERD!!
YOU NEED A SHEPHERD TOO!!

We need a Shepherd to care for us and to guide us. And...WE HAVE ONE!! One who knows us by name (John 10:3). One who is so good to us and loves us so incredibly that He willingly gave His life for the sheep.

This Sunday morning ... gather with your friends and family to celebrate the love of the Shepherd. Hold hands, pause, pray, sing, celebrate and thank God for being blessed with such a loving and caring Shepherd!!

"Savior, like a shepherd lead us,
Much we need Thy tender care;
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us,
For our use Thy folds prepare;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast bought us, Thine we are!"
