The Focus

With intensity, read these words from the New Testament book of Romans...
"Do not let any part of your body become a tool of wickedness, to be used for sinning. Instead, give yourselves completely to God since you have been given new life. And use your whole body as a tool to do what is right for the glory of God" - Romans 6:13 (NLT)
"Give your bodies to God. Let them be a living & holy sacrifice - the kind He will accept. When you think of what He has done for you, is this too much to ask?" - Romans 12:1 (NLT)
For the past two weeks in The Central Point we have been talking about how to offer specific parts of our body as a sacrifice of holiness to our awesome Lord. We've talked about the ears...the eyes...and today we move around to the front of our head...the MOUTH!!
Let's briefly examine a few more words of wisdom from the Scriptures...
"Then watch your tongue! Keep your lips from telling lies!" - Psalm 34:13 (NLT)
"You are not defiled by what you eat; you are defiled by what you say and do." - Matthew 15:11 (NLT)
"Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do. Avoid all perverse talk; stay far away from corrupt speech." - Proverbs 4:23,24 (NLT)
Jesus taught us that our lips reveal the content of our hearts. His words speak so true in Matthew 12:34..."Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks."
What do your lips reveal about the content of your heart? What are you filling your heart with that overflows from your lips?
Is your mouth full of...
Encouragement or criticism?
Mercy or anger?
Love or hatred?
Kindness or cussing?
Faith or doubt?
Peace or animosity?
Joy or hopelessness?
David prayed this prayer in the Old Testament..."May the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing to You, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." - Psalm 19:14
That's my prayer for you and me today!
From that little chorus we sang in Sunday School as 4 year olds...
"Oh be careful little mouth what you say.
Oh be careful little mouth what you say.
For the Father up above,
He is looking down with love.
So be careful little mouth what you say."
He serves as the Senior Pastor with southwest Virginia church... a loving church family in Abingdon.
He and his wife Sharon have been married for over 27 years and are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, one son-in-law, and two precious grandchildren, the second arrived arrived on the scene in September 2004!!
