Preparing for 'Palm Sunday'
Date Posted: April 30, 2004

This coming Sunday (April 13) is "PALM SUNDAY". Churches around the world will recall Jesus' triumphant entrance into the city of Jerusalem...riding on a donkey as the people joyfully waved palm branches and put their coats down on the road for the donkey to step on. They all shouted enthusiastically 'Hosanna!! Bless the King who comes in the name of the Lord!"'

But Luke reminds us of something else that happened on that same day as Jesus is entering the city of Jerusalem.

In Luke 19:41-44 we read that as Jesus saw the city of Jerusalem ahead of Him...He began to cry. Now - why was Jesus weeping over a city that was welcoming Him so royally?

Perhaps it was because He knew that within the week these joyous 'Hosannas' would be changed into the cruel and bloodthirty cries of 'Crucify Him!'

When we read the account of how the people betrayed Jesus and turned their backs on Him - we have a tendency to become angry. Yet, I imagine that most of you are like me . . . it is so easy for me to praise and worship God one day and betray Him the next! I DESPERATELY NEED A SAVIOR!

It is my prayer that through the various observances & celebrations of Palm Sunday, Maunday Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter that you and I will be strengthened and determined to live consistently for Him.

On Sunday morning...wave your palm branches...sing 'Hosanna!'...and refresh your commitment to Christ!
