Sending Love Letters!
Date Posted: May 26, 2004

At Central Christian Church in Jonesborough, Tennessee we are currently in a message series entitled "7th Heaven" - dealing with how to strengthen and fortify our marriages and our families. In light of what is taking place in Massachusetts with the recognition of same-sex marriages...the traditional family/marriage is in need of a major boost!

This past Sunday we specifically discussed as to how we can preserve our marriages. One particular point that seemed to hit home with several folks was that we need to keep on dating our mate. (In fact, I know of two couples that left church on Sunday morning and immediately went out on a lunch date!! Fantastic!!) You see, the things we did prior to marriage to woo them and win them over...we need to keep doing...we need to keep on dating our mate. God intended for our marriages to have romance, physical affection, sex, fun, playfulness, and enjoying each other. And as husbands and wives we should strive at all times to keep our marriages fresh and exciting.

For those of us who grew up in the 1950's-1980's - you will remember Red Skelton as one of America's best comedians. Red Skelton grew up in Vincennes, Indiana next door to my dad and his family. Some of my uncles have some pretty remarkable stories about Red Sketon! Anyway...did you know that Red Skelton wrote a love letter to his wife every day until his death? That is so wonderful!

So, this weeks 'CENTRAL POINT' will be shorter than usual...because you have a homework assignment!!

If you're MARRIED...take a moment this week and send a letter or card to your spouse and express to them the depth of your love and appreciation

If you're NOT MARRIED...take a moment this week and send a letter or card to a significant person in your life and tell them how they have impacted your life in a positive way and how you value their love & friendship.

God gave us a love note...it's called the Holy Bible. Maybe if each of us began to heed Jesus' words in John 15:12 (and He repeats it again 5 verses later in John 15:17) and began to truly love our spouses with a sacrifical love and to love one another as Christ loves us...it just might be that our communities, our nation, and our world will be a lovelier place!!

So...grab a pen and paper and create that love note!
