The Focus
by Dennis Wheeler
One of the things that my wife and I enjoy doing in our free time is to spend that time with our friends and deepen our relationship with them. Going to the lake, out for dinner, to concerts or the movies...spending quality and quantity time with them shows how much we value, appreciate and love them. It's also during these extended times together that we discover their deepest desires, hurts, concerns, and life experiences. We grow together, laugh together, and cry together.
I'm sure that you agree with me that developing any friendship takes time and commitment.
I'm also sure that you will agree with me that that this is one area of our spiritual lives that many of us are lacking in... spending quality and quantity time with our incredible God!
God encourages us to pray in order to build an intimate and personal relationship between Himself and us. He wants us to have quality and quantity in our prayer life and in turn we'll discover the deep desires of His heart and we are then able to to share with Him the desires of our heart, our hurts and concerns. He wants us to acknowledge Him as the source of everything and that He will answer our prayers in His will and His timing. He desires us to grow...He wants to laugh with us...and He most certainly will cry with us.
But to develop this sacred & precious relationship will require TIME and COMMITMENT.
'TIME' ... one of the most valued commodities of our culture.
'COMMITMENT' ... one of the weakening areas of our culture.
Yet...if we realize WHO God is...and WHAT He can do...and that He desires a Father-child relationship with us ... is He then not worthy of our time and commitment?
Let us place the Lord, our best Friend, in first place in our lives with our time and our commitment. As we spend time quality and quantity time with Him it will reveal how much we value, appreciate and love Him!
