A SUMMARY VIEW
Peter and only Peter referred to Jesus as the Prince of Life. He stated, “But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.” (Acts 3:14,15). Why call Him the Prince of Life? Consider this summary.
o As the Divine Agent of creation, He was the original giver of the Breath of Life (John 1:3 & Genesis 2:7).
o Through His Divine Will and in keeping with His desire for man to have life, man was granted access to the Tree of Life (John 1:4 & Genesis 2:9).
o He is the keeper of the Fountain of Life (Psalm 36:9).
o His prophets declared the Way of Life (Jeremiah 21:8).
o He is the Word of Life (1 John 1:1)
o He is the Bread of Life (John 6:35).
o He holds the Promise of Life (2 Timothy 1:1)
o He gives the Crown of Life to those who persevere (James 1:12; Revelation 2:10).
o He faithfully keeps the Book of Life (Philippians 4:2; Revelation 21:27).
o He grants those who overcome access to the Tree of Life (Revelation 2:7).
o He grants unlimited and free access to the Water of Life that flows from the Throne of the Father and the Lamb (Revelation 22:1,17).
Why call Him the Prince of Life? Because He is the Prince of Life! From beginning to end, He had and has everything to do with man’s life. He is life’s creator, its sustainer and our redeemer. All hope of life, temporal and eternal, is forever anchored in Him. When we think of life, He comes to mind. He declared of Himself, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14.6). He professed that He could give life and “give it more abundantly” (John 10.10). No matter how one looks at the matter, Jesus is the sum and substance of all life. Without Him and apart from Him, life as we know it simply could not exist.
When earth-life is no more and mankind shall have stepped into eternity, many will find themselves in a place apart from Jesus. There they will be consigned to exist for an eternity in that God-forsaken and dreaded place. There they will “live” entirely separate and distant from the Prince of Life. This state of man is called the second death! Only through the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life can one escape this eternal fate.
Why call Him the Prince of Life? Simply because He is!!
