A Lot Of Salt
Date Posted: July 30, 2023

Genesis 19:26 But his wife, from behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

This is a crazy scripture to me. Lot’s wife became a pillar of salt all because she looked back at the city of Sodom. My question has been what was so terrible about looking back? Why the strong punishment of death?

Read Genisis 19, and you will see Lot and his family were being taken out of the city by angels to save them. God was going to destroy the city by brimstone and fire out of the heavens. It was a very urgent matter.

Remember:

* Our future is never behind us. It’s always in front of us. Looking back at our

past will never move us forward. We are called to run a race. (1Corinthians

9:24) If we try to run forward while looking backwards, we will not run

accurately and it slows us down.

* Looking at our past loses will make us bitter. The apostle Paul says: “I do not

consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one

thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining

forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme

and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.”

(Philippians 3:13-14) We must fight to keep looking forward.

* Looking back at our past will keep us from living the full life Jesus would

have you live.(John 10:10)Because Lot’s wife chose to look back, and not

forward, she is remembered as a pillar of salt. Jesus wants us to look forward

and up so the promises of God can be fulfilled in our life.

“Next Level Thinking” requires us to keep moving forward toward the Lord. It requires us to shake off past failures and disappointments to reach the finish line of a well run life.

Are you looking back at something that you know you should let go? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you stop looking back and move forward toward Him.
