Don't Do It!
Date Posted: December 3, 2023

Today we will be discussing the third and final step of this three part series on goal setting.

This a different view on the subject since most thoughts on the matter seem to be writing on goals for things and general desires. I am focusing on a biblical view of goal setting. Since Mankind has fallen, God has been in the works to restore Mankind to Himself. We have a large part to play in this restoration. Therefore He has given us a good work to do to help accomplish His restoration plan. The Spirit of God holds the plans and He lives in us. We are to find out what those plans are then align our thinking to the process of achieving the goals.

What do we need to do to align our thinking.

1. Find out what the plans are for our life.

2. Make it our spiritual, mental and emotional focus.

3. Set our life goals around the plans.

Let me clear on the three step process I've laid out. Most of the time the steps will blend together. At times when you are getting a clearer vision of the plan, you will automatically start to connect with it. Other times you won't simply because it doesn't make sense to you. It will be good for you to remember it is an evolutionary process. This three step process is to help you "find the call" for your life and to move toward that call. Once we start to get a hold of step one and two, we can now start setting goals to move us toward the completion of Gods plan for our life.

When looking at Gods plans we typically find we had hints throughout our lives about the direction we should have taken or wished we would have taken. As a child I had a dream of what I wanted to do when I grew up. Other times in my youth, I had hints to what I was good at and enjoyed but I let life and the opinions of others push me off track. As I grew old enough to start making a living, I lived within the boundaries of my low self-esteem and looked to see what would make me the most money and followed the money trail, as most people do. As a result I lived a failed, miserable and insignificant life.

But fortunately for me God graciously brought me back to my senses. In addition, He gave me a key verse that would weave in and out of my preparation for the fulfillment of the call on my life. Matthew 6:33 (AMP) reads: "But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides." I had to learn to look inward on a regular basis to find out the path I am to take in this life. God had to thoroughly transform my thinking process from the worlds view to the kingdom view. I had to learn to take EVERY thought captive and decide what to do with it. I had to learn to stop looking at the path others took and stop listening to what others had to say about my future. I had to learn to let perseverance have its perfect work in me. I had to decide I was going to stick with the preparation process if it took ten, fifteen or twenty years of my life because I reached a point were I knew I had to learn and trust what was inside of me, the kingdom of God, and follow the voice that leads me into a desert without a beaten path. I had to learn to make my own path according to the plans given me.

If an Architect gave you, a builder, a set of plans to build a custom home, he expects you to build the home according to the plans. Therefore you would, as the builder, need to take action and have the land cleared and leveled. Digging for the foundations would be next and so on and so forth you would build the home according to the Architects custom specifications. So it is with you. God has custom specifications for your life and it is up to you to seek the kingdom so you, as the builder, will set your goals to fulfill the call on your life.

Step three is to set our life goals around the plans given to us by God.

How is this done?

Again this is a step that will take time to process. We need to look at were we are in life and compare it to the plans. After that we need to consider one to three goals, at the most, to set to get us started.

You may need to:

  • Go to school. Change schools.
  • Change jobs.
  • Change careers.
  • Get an apprenticeship.
  • Hire a life coach.
  • Read books that lead you toward your goal.
  • Adjust your schedule.
  • Drop some "friends".
  • Lessen your tv and fb time.
  • Write a book.
  • Start a blog.
  • Find someone to be accountable too.

My best advice is to get started ASAP. Unless the builder builds the house, it doesn't get built.

What is inside of you that God wants to pull out of you?

What can you do to connect with it?

How can you change your thoughts to work toward the life God has called you to live?

I challenge you, brothers and sisters, to get seek the kingdom first and passionately pursue the call on your life and live it to the full.
