Psalms 91:13
Date Posted: April 14, 2024

'Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. ' Psalm 91:13

I've often looked at myself in the mirror and wanted to punch the mirror because of the disparaging thoughts I agree with concerning myself. Fortunately, I know better than to punch the mirror, lest I shatter it and cut myself.

Come to think of it. Agreeing with these damaging thoughts can shatter and cut our relationship with the Lord. These agreements will deface and disfigure the truth of God's thoughts toward us.

The definition of "lion" in Psalm 91:13 is, From an unused root probably meaning to roar, a lion (from his characteristic roar): - (fierce) lion.

This definition reminds me of 1 Peter 5:8(AMP); 'Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. '

Every day and as often as he can, Satan will repeat negative things about us in our minds. He will speak directly to us and from others. Some of his favorites he used on me were:

You will never get ahead.

You're not smart enough to do anything for God.

How can Jesus love a man like you?

You are on your own.

You've messed up your life to the point of no return.

I'm sure you've heard some of these in your own life. Satan has a custom list of lies to cater to you. Satan is the father of lies, and he will never tell you the truth of God's word about you except to twist it to put doubt in your heart and mind about God's thoughts towards you.

Read this Psalm and think of how it makes you feel. Psalm 139:17-18 (AMP) 'How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I could count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You. '

Can you accept this scripture as truth? If not, the lying lion may have one over you.

Here is the answer to this constant spiritual assault against you.

Slay the lies of the lion.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (AMP) 'The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,'

This verse is in sync with Psalm 91:13. Psalm 91 is a verbal picture and outline on how humankind should live on this earth. Psalm 91:13 tells us we will have victory. Reread it. 'Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder.' To tread is to walk on or to make a path. When you apply 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, you are creating a new pathway to victory in your life. Stand up to the lying lion. Tell the lion he lost the battle because of Jesus Christ, our commander. Tell him he doesn't have authority in your mind and body, and you are more than a conqueror through Christ. Use your mouth for good. Speak the word of God out loud with confidence. Do what Ephesians 6 says to do.

Ephesians 6:14‭-‬17 AMP So stand firm and hold your ground, having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart), and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news]. Above all, lift up the [protective] shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

We cannot kill the lies with kindness. We must aggressively take a stand against the lies with our faith-filled words from the bible.

The Lord progressively releases us into the world to battle against the enemy, so more people will come to know Him before the end of the age.

Call on the Spirit of God to help you know the enemies lie so you can slay the lying lion.
