Psalms 91:2
Date Posted: January 14, 2024

'I will say of the Lord; He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 'Psalm 91:2 KJV

Strong's Definition of the word "say."

A primitive root; to say (used with great latitude): - answer, appoint, avouch, bid, boast self, call, certify, challenge, charge, + (at the, give) command (ment), commune, consider, declare, demand, X desire, determine, X expressly, X indeed, X intend, name, X plainly, promise, publish, report, require, say, speak (against, of), X still, X suppose, talk, tell, term, X that is, X think, use [speech], utter, X verily, X yet.

This scripture reminds me, after studying it, of my responsibility to make God's Word active in me. I must say it. I must declare it. I must demand it. I must take every thought captive into the obedience of Christ and counter it with the Word of God. I must give a voice to the Word, so my mind, emotions, and body line up. Giving voice to the Word speaks to all forces coming against us, telling them the direction you choose and demanding them to go in.

Jesus said, 'But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an accounting for every careless or useless word they speak. ' Matthew 12:36 AMP

This verse is a strong statement from Jesus. An angelic court stenographer records every word we speak. This verse is serious. When we die, we give an account for every careless, useless word we spoke.

Yikes!

Take note of this. The author of Psalm 91 takes responsibility to speak the truth of the matter at hand. The text reads, "I will say of the Lord," not "The Lord says." The author is boasting about God. He's declaring God's protection on him. He's demanding his thoughts and emotions to line up with the truth of God's ability to guard him.

How can we take the same approach in our daily walk with the Lord?

1. Take time today to record your spoken and written words.

2. Ask yourself if these words are careless or useless.

3. Ask yourself if the Lord will be pleased with them.

In a time of difficulty, we must take a sober account of the situation then speak the truth of God's Word into our hearts.

Helpful hint: Listen and read fewer news reports. Read and focus on the scriptures. Psalm 23 and Psalm 91 are perfect and powerful in this season the world is facing. At all costs, replace any fearful thoughts and words with scripture.

After studying Psalm 91:2, when fear tries to slip into my spirit, I will say of the Lord; He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.

Speak the Word!

Andy
