Psalms 91:3
Date Posted: January 21, 2024

'Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 'Psalm 91:3 KJV

Strong's definition of "noisome."
From H1933 (in the sense of eagerly coveting and rushing upon; by implication of falling); desire; also ruin: - calamity, iniquity, mischief, mischievous (thing), naughtiness, naughty, noisome, perverse thing, substance, very wickedness.
Strong's definition of "pestilence."
Comes from:H1696 (in the sense of destroying); a pestilence: - murrain, pestilence, plague.
Strong's Definition of H1696
A primitive root; perhaps properly to arrange; but used figuratively (of words) to speak; rarely (in a destructive sense) to subdue: - answer, appoint, bid, command, commune, declare, destroy, give, name, promise, pronounce, rehearse, say, speak, be spokesman, subdue, talk, teach, tell, think, use [entreaties], utter, X well, X work.

It is amazing how the Word of God flows once we get a bigger picture of what God is saying.

In verse 1, the word "dwelleth" is defined: to sit down specifically as a judge.
In context, we need to decide to shelter ourselves under God or not. It's an action we must take. It's a judgment call to take advantage of God's protection or continue to be on our own. It's our call.

In verse 2, if we decide to utilize God's protection, we must say it out loud and declare it. Just as a Judge will decree a thing, so do we.

In verse 3, there is a shift from external to internal actions we must do to stay under God's protection continually.
We need to oversee our words.
Studying the definitions of "noisome pestilence" tells me, in part, the words we speak play a role in our life that takes us to a place named "fear."

The good thing about words is they are a gauge to what is going on in our hearts. They tell us what we have been entertaining in our mind and what we are allowing to settle in our thought process. Once we let words take residence in our thoughts, they become a world view we carry and unwittingly live our life according to those thoughts. Right or wrong, our actions follow our world view. For this reason, Proverbs 18:7 is very important in our life. ' A fool's mouth is his ruin, And his lips are the snare of his soul. '

I believe part of God's protection for us is to reveal the unbiblical words we think and speak regularly. Our thoughts and words deeply affect our lives, and the Holy Spirit is our guide to change the way we believe internally, then decree the Truth of God's Word over every situation in our daily lives.

Remember, words are a gauge to what is going on in our hearts. Take time today to ask the Holy Spirit about your negative and fearful internal dialog. Ask Him to reveal any patterns in your soul that are contrary to the Word of God and causing you turmoil. Ask Him to heal you from these snares so you can live the free life Jesus offers you.
