Psalms 91:5
Date Posted: February 4, 2024

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

Psalm 91:5 KJV

We can see here the author is still speaking to himself. Still making declarations to his soul. King David did something amazing recorded in 1 Samuel 30:6(KJV), And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

David's tribe of people were going to kill him. He was greatly distressed as we all would be. David is in a dire situation. King Saul is hunting him to kill him also. Fear is at its peak in David's life in his camp. David had no place to run and hide. Despite it all, David remembered who his God was. David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

I imagine he started recalling all his victories in the Lord. Even from a young age, David fought the lion and the bear. He killed Goliath, and he tempered his emotions when he had the chance to kill King Saul.

Joshua was told by the Lord, after he led the Israelites across the Jordan, to gather twelve stones as a memorial for their children. (Joshua 4:1-8) We can do this also. We can remember all the times Jesus has come through for us. It helps us to recall His goodness and His ability to take care of every need in our life. It reminds us the enemy has no power against our God. God alone is our source for everything and protection against all things.

When fear tries to take over my emotions, I'm going to take time to remember what Jesus has already done for me against all worldly odds.

I will take time to encourage myself in the Lord my God.

Will you join me?

Andy
