Psalms 91:8
Date Posted: February 25, 2024

'Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.'

Psalm 91:8 KJV

On my last blog on Psalm 91:7, we talked about the difficulty of believing God's words. At times, the Word of God seems to be too good to be true. Verse 8 gets better.

When we submit our way of trying to live our life to the full and trust God's direction, we will see the enemy fail in every aspect of our life. God will also make the enemy return all he has stolen from us.

Let's break this down.

"Only with thine eyes" means you will be an actual witness on how God works all things out for your good. You will experience the Lord's goodness, protection, and provision for all that you need. This verse tells us that God will give us a broader perspective of His ability to make sure you are completely secure in His love. He will show you He is fully capable of taking care of His children if they do things His way. God wants to give you a life without worry.

Matthew 6:33-34 (AMP) speaks of this. "But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also. "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

The word "behold" from Psalm 91:8, in the original language, means:

Strong's Definition

A primitive root; to scan, that is, look intently at; by implication to regard with pleasure, favor or care: - (cause to) behold, consider, look (down), regard, have respect, see.

Websters Dictionary 1828 defines the word "scan" as 1. To examine with critical care; to scrutinize.

It is also connected to the Latin word "ascend." Websters Dictionary 1828 defines "ascend" as

1. To move upwards; to mount, to rise, whether in air or water or upon a material object.

I believe one reason the Lord wants us in His secret place, under His shadow, and His wings are to show us His mighty works. When we examine God doing His protective and provisional work in our lives, it builds confidence and trust toward God. God establishes the confidence in us to believe Him for all things. As we see His exploits, our trust and faith in Him elevate into a stable belief system in our hearts and mind.

The Word of God comes alive, and we begin to experience the life Jesus offered us. Living to the full is the life we begin to live out daily. We begin to experience peace in the storms of life. We receive physical and emotional healing. We experience provision like never before. But most importantly, we experience God's perfect and fatherly love for us. We begin to live a life without fear or worry as we learn to trust in Him in all things.

I challenge you to take the time to think about these verses. Focus on them. Meditate on them. I promise you, Jesus will become more real to you than the things of this world.
