Vain Ambition
Date Posted: December 31, 2023

' For all the pagan world is [greedily] seeking these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Only aim at and strive for and seek His kingdom, and all these things shall be supplied to you also. Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom!'

Luke 12:30-32 AMPC

Most of what Jesus has been trying to do with me since my discipleship started in 2000 is to break me of the idea that I can make anything happen without Him. He’s been tearing down the walls of pride, selfishness, and the need to be looked at as a successful man.

“Vain Ambition” was my middle name and I did most things to make me look good to others. It was all a cover-up. A giant fig leaf to cover my low esteem, failures in life, and deep emotional pain.

After my salvation in 2000, my life took a turn for the best. It certainly didn’t feel like it, though. Most of it has been the cutting away of the self-serving flesh. I should be 25 pounds now.

As we read the above scripture, and also, Matthew 6:19-34, we can read the vast contradiction of what the world teaches us about our provision in life and God’s plan for our provision. Polar opposites.

The world tells us to work hard and do what it takes to get ahead and you can be in the top 2% of successful people in the world. It’s greedy, self-serving advice, and definitely un-Godly. It all leads to our own human potential and self-ability instead of trusting the Lord to fully meet and exceed our needs. Our human potential and self-ability lead us to the road of self-righteousness.

Jesus always steers us away from ourselves leads us toward the Father.

This next scripture in Hebrews 11:6 states;

'But without faith, it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him. '.

Jesus made this subject of human potential null and void in the kingdom of God with this next statement. 'So Jesus answered them by saying, “I 'assure you and most solemnly say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself [of His own accord], unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever things the Father does, the Son [in His turn] also does in the same way. ' (John 5:19 AMP)

This is an amazing statement coming from the Son of God. Jesus gave us the greatest model of humility with this statement of faith. Read it again, slowly. Meditate on it. Hear what it is saying to your soul.

I’m not at the perfect place of totally submitting my own will but I am much closer and I can tell you I live a fuller life in Christ. I have more peace, trust, and faith in the Father’s willingness and ability to meet and exceed all of my needs.

I encourage you to search your hearts for anything in you that leads you to the un-Godly path of human potential and self-ability to take care of yourself. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to those places and ask Jesus to heal anything in you that keeps you from totally trusting the Father to take care of you.

With love,

Andy
