Lookin' Like Daddy
Date Posted: May 27, 2009

Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Everyone has the power of greatness; not for fame, but greatness. Because greatness is determined by service.”

I wish I had this quote when I was typing up the note on ‘Meekness’ the other day! Sounds like some of what Jesus said, huh? Let's look at Matthew 18:1-4 : "At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And calling to ...a child, he put him in the midst of them, and said, Truly, I say to you, unless you can become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Mr. King had Jesus living on the inside of him; he was a minister of the gospel, serving God ... he was His Father's representative . He was "going about doing His Father’s work" on earth ... so he should sound like Jesus, right? As we grow “into the image of Christ” we should begin to resemble our Father ... Jesus did, and we should too! Do you look like your daddy? Did you get his eyes? Ears? My granddaughter has very big, beautiful, brown eyes. When looking at a picture, it’s usually the first thing people notice about her. She got those eyes from her daddy who got them from my mother. From her eyes up she looks just like my mother did as a child. From her nose down she resembles her mother; a very BIG smile followed by a very small frame! Some of her tendencies (mostly good in my opinion-HA) are like her Mamaw’ita; at least that is what her mother has told me! She resembles her parents and grandparents in her looks and behavior, those who have influenced her life, her being.

The other day I was studying the Word and got so much HOPE on the inside of me I had to call MyBelovedFriendLisa (MBFL) to share it. She wrote down what I said. (I am glad that she did ‘cause I was sooo excited that I didn’t remember!) These are the words she wrote down:

"So, how am I today? My answer is “HOPEFUL! I have hope! We all have hope! We have the hope that we can grow to the place where our Heavenly Father is PROUD that we are His children, just like our earthly daddy! Then people will say, ’Hey! I know who you belong to! You look like ... and you act like ... that sounded just like something your daddy would say!’ When Abba-Father, 'Daddy', hears words like that, it makes Him proud!"

So, we must continually ask ourselves, "Am I lookin' like daddy today?" If people don’t recognize God, the Father, in His children, then what good are they really doing in whatever 'service' they tend to or gift they demonstrate? Remember, what Paul told the Corinthians, ....If I speak…, but have not LOVE (the character of the Father and His Son, Jesus),..I am only a noisy gong or clanging cymbal.” Who are you listening to? Do they “LOOK” like the Father? Do they “SOUND” like Jesus? What about you? Do people recognize who your Father is, IN you? Wanna' make Daddy PROUD today? Go about doin' and lookin' like Daddy! Like they say, 'If God had a refrigerator, He’d have your picture on it! Adjust & Enjoy-agreenwalt

Biography Information:
Lisa Mendenhall lives in Smackover, Arkansas with her husband of over 28 years, Chris. She has 4 grown children who also love the Lord, each serving Him in some capacity. As a teacher of the Word, Lisa, believes that she has a responsibility to use her God-given gift to teach those who have a desire to live victorious in Christ how to do so. She believes in order to live victoriously, one must get to know God and His character. His character is love. Therefore, Lisa has a heart-desire to bring people to a greater understanding of God's love. Her teachings explain that when His love is activated IN His children, it will motivate them to give just as His love motivated Him to give 'His only begotten Son', Jesus, to the world. God's wisdom does not always flow with the world's system of wisdom and His Word says, 'my people perish for lack of knowledge'. Lisa states, 'During meditation one day, I heard the word 'winnows'. With great curiosity, I learned it to mean,

'To separate the chaff from (grain) by means of a current of air. To rid of undesirable parts. To separate or get rid of (an undesirable part); eliminate: winnowing out the errors in logic. ...separate grain from chaff...separate the good from the bad...examine closely in order to separate the good from the bad; sift...' (www.dictionary.com) 'This study gave me direction and focus for my teaching.  God had placed a longing in my heart to teach the body of Christ how to separate from carnal thinking and rid themselves of old ways that hinder their Spiritual growth. I desire to see them live victoriously, by the 'higher ways' of God's wisdom.'
