Thanksgiving or Mully-Grubbing?
Date Posted: March 2, 2008

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

Do you know what mully-grubbing is? It is red-neck-southern talk for complaining and murmuring! It is literally the opposite of being thankful and grateful. Many of us were not raised to say thank you or to be thankful. A lot of us were raised around mully-grubbing and complaining and that is all we have heard growing up. So now we have a hard time telling someone thank you for things they do for us. We also have a hard time telling God thank you and KEEPING a thankful attitude. We determine in our hearts that we will be thankful but before we know it we are back to complaining and belly-aching about every little thing and all of our thankfulness flies out the window.

Think about this, who was the last person that did something for you? Maybe bought your lunch, gave you a gift, did some cleaning for you, or even opened a door for you? What about prayed for you and you knew it? People do things for us (even co-workers and spouses) every day that we take for granted. So what if they get paid to do it? Did it make your job easier? So what if that is their responsibility? Did it help you out? Now think about this, when is the last time GOD did something for you? He does so many things for us that we do not even realize is our Father taking care of us. How many times a day does he rescue us from danger? How many times a day does He give you favor with other people? Give you good deals on things you buy? Give you supernatural wisdom? It is so easy to get over into complaining and whining. It is a part of everyday life if we are not careful. We can become such whiny people that others even have no desire to be around us.

We should have a light shining in us that screams I am a Christian and that light should be coming from not only our countenance but also our mouths. Be very vocal in thanksgiving to God and to others and watch how your life can change for the better. Not only will people want to be around you, you will start liking yourself better too!!! We need to PRACTICE BEING THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL! Ask the Lord to help you recognize when you get over into complaining and to help you recognize when you are not being thankful and grateful. Look up scriptures on thankfulness and being grateful. Plaster your thinking with these and change the way you look at your life. Take time right now to thank God for at least one thing and then go thank some else for what they did for you too! One step at a time you can change your thinking about life and yourself by BEING THANKFUL FOR EVERY LITTLE THING and then watch God change the big things!!!

Biography Information:
Lisa Mendenhall lives in Smackover, Arkansas with her husband of over 28 years, Chris. She has 4 grown children who also love the Lord, each serving Him in some capacity. As a teacher of the Word, Lisa, believes that she has a responsibility to use her God-given gift to teach those who have a desire to live victorious in Christ how to do so. She believes in order to live victoriously, one must get to know God and His character. His character is love. Therefore, Lisa has a heart-desire to bring people to a greater understanding of God's love. Her teachings explain that when His love is activated IN His children, it will motivate them to give just as His love motivated Him to give 'His only begotten Son', Jesus, to the world. God's wisdom does not always flow with the world's system of wisdom and His Word says, 'my people perish for lack of knowledge'. Lisa states, 'During meditation one day, I heard the word 'winnows'. With great curiosity, I learned it to mean,

'To separate the chaff from (grain) by means of a current of air. To rid of undesirable parts. To separate or get rid of (an undesirable part); eliminate: winnowing out the errors in logic. ...separate grain from chaff...separate the good from the bad...examine closely in order to separate the good from the bad; sift...' (www.dictionary.com) 'This study gave me direction and focus for my teaching.  God had placed a longing in my heart to teach the body of Christ how to separate from carnal thinking and rid themselves of old ways that hinder their Spiritual growth. I desire to see them live victoriously, by the 'higher ways' of God's wisdom.'
