Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
Who is this man? What is he made of? How did he emerge from obscurity to become a major figure?
Jeremiah is one of the prophets raised up by God at a time when the situation in the nation was serious and critical.
Israel was facing a crisis. Israel was facing the judgment of God.
Was he some extraordinary man of God, who was always reading the writings of Moses, and always praying, and eager to rise up and speak at every opportunity? No. At least, not to begin with!
He was reluctant to carry out the task to which God was calling him, but he changes. He was transformed over the years.
When Jesus Christ asked His disciples what the people were saying about Him, one of the replies was that some think you are Jeremiah.
God took the initiative to approach a young man, and call a young man, and he was prepared to put up with the answer, “not me”.
He told God he was far too young and inexperienced, and anyway he could not speak, but he was able to speak not too badly as he argued with God.
God does not mind us arguing with Him provided we understand we never win.
Wrestling with God is not always a sign of rebellion and disobedience. It can mean that you are serious, working it all out, and counting the cost.
There comes that moment when God interjects. Enough! Don’t be so argumentative. I am not inviting you to do this. I am telling you, informing you, commanding you. This is the reason for your being born.
God knew him before he was formed in the womb. Jeremiah was set apart from all other careers.
Be grateful this man was not aborted.
