Word from Nairnshire

He was a little apprehensive to begin with when it came to speaking out on certain specific crucial issues concerning the nation.

Many prophets experience that, and Jeremiah was no exception, but God anointed him with the essential courage and boldness, as his mouth was filled with light and truth.

Jeremiah realised he had to tell bad news to people, knowing they would not believe him.

People had brought most of their troubles upon themselves by running after gods which did not exist, and by becoming more heavily involved in idolatry.

If he would not preach what God was revealing, he would be shamed and embarrassed in front of the nation.

Jeremiah had the option of appearing a fool or a fortress.

If we are afraid of people, God may make us ashamed in front of people.

Everyone has the ability to influence others for good or for bad. Our lives shape those around us in profound ways, much more than we think.

Jeremiah was raised up to exercise the influence God wanted him to exert.

He knew what was important, and he lived for what was important.

He would appear like a fortified city, with iron pillars, and a bronze wall. Now, he probably did not always feel the reassuring strength of these facts.

When everybody would be against Jeremiah, God was for him.

With Jeremiah the wrestling soon stopped, and it was much more than mere words.

We influence those around us, through our actions, rather than our intentions.

This prophetic leader was always available to God, and never off duty, not even when his enemies rejected him and imprisoned him.

Our limited choice may be to rebel or obey.

He made things happen, because he thought differently from others.
