Let’s have a serious talk about what is happening. Let’s discuss this matter. Surely you can spend some time with us in one of the quiet villages outside Tel Aviv. We really want to meet with you and hear how things are going. Let’s dialogue!

Five times Nehemiah’s enemies tried to drag him away from the great project he was heading up in Jerusalem.

His enemies are incensed at what he was accomplishing for God, but Nehemiah would not leave the workforce without his inspired and encouraging leadership. He knew people can lapse into their old ways when the leader leaves the scene.

Not for a moment is he prepared to give up, in the interests of tact and diplomacy, or for superficial peace.

Nehemiah was a man who never let his guard down. He knew the danger of distraction.

He knew how the enemy wants you isolated and on your own. It is then comparatively easy for a marauding wolf to pick off the single sheep. In the Church of Jesus Christ close trusting fellowship is essential.

A Christian, on his own, risks experiencing ultimate loneliness.

From the beginning, Jesus was about His Father’s business, refusing to be derailed or diverted from His crucial task. The importance and significance of fellowship resounds throughout the New Testament.

Nehemiah’s enemies then attempted to blacken his character, seeking to undermine his influence.

Consider how a rumour can spread through an office, or works, or community. This form of blackmail really only works when the individual targeted is prone to fear.

Being determined to complete the work, with his life in danger, he turns to prayer.

Nehemiah out prayed, out lasted, and out manoeuvred his opponents, emerging from all these dangers with his reputation intact.
