Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
Some of us started 2009 by considering and being reminded how important it is to be more interested in people than things.
This was all in the context of, why am I here; what am I doing in this world; and what is the purpose of my existence?
These are highly relevant themes and questions as New Year began; particularly in these financially challenging days.
Having left a conference with 230 men, I was asked if I had come away with hope, and after a moments thought, my reply was, no not hope, if you want one word, but battle, yes.
It can be good to be faced with piercing penetrating questions.
How aware are you of others? Do you care for those who are facing perplexing problems, and carrying heavy burdens? How genuine is your concern for people in trouble?
God’s highest priority and interest has to do with people.
He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world, to rescue people, because He deeply cared about people, and continues to care for people.
It has been said that most human problems stem from the fact that we treat people as things and things as people. If that be true, then we need to realign our priorities, and be quick about it.
Being an expert in religion can make a man by-pass people. Jesus illustrates that lesson when speaking about a man who was mugged and a Samaritan stopped to help. He also spoke about a very rich man who became aware of the needs of the poor when it was far too late.
Are you still looking for a project for 2009?
Invest in people. Invest in ministries that care for the hungry, poor and homeless.
To keep going you will need encouragement from God. Most of us do.
