Have you ever seen grass turning into trees?

When a man comes to Jesus Christ the rock, that is the amazing spiritual picture the Psalmist prophetically portrays. He speaks of a permanence and endurance, compared with the transitory nature of life without God.

He points to the palm tree which grows and flourishes in the desert.

To the disciple of Jesus, this present world is very much a barren desert, but like the palm, the true believer grows deep roots which search for nourishing food and refreshing moisture, in times of drought.

He speaks next of the cedar, which grows slowly and straight, and is able to withstand cold wet icy conditions.

Such poignant pictures are so different from grass which is here today and gone tomorrow.

The next generation needs spiritual heroes.

When children and grandchildren look at our lives, what will they see? What do they see, following our battles, scrapes and struggles? What do they hear flowing from our lips?

Is our enduring commitment an attractive magnetic inspiring advert?

John, the youngest of the twelve disciples, was in his 90’s, when the risen Jesus invited him to come up to heaven and look behind the scenes and write the book of Revelation. His mature faith was vibrant, real and lasted.

If God were going to make a commercial for the Church of Jesus Christ, would he choose you and me to be in it?

Would He select us because of our loyalty and obedience, or the way He sees us handle difficult situations, and cope with awkward people?

Psalm 92 teaches how God provides that essential fine oil of the Holy Spirit to make all this possible.

Some things must never be attempted in our own meagre limited strength.
