In Scotland, we have a new Government with a surprisingly increased majority.

In London, we have observed Governments adopting immoral views, making bad decisions, and invading other people’s territories.

In Israel, there was a demand for a king. All the other nations had kings.

We want to be just like everyone else. We want to be just like all the others. That could never be.

Parts of the visible church express such tragic sentiments, regarding their views on moral values and spiritual standards.

One man recently stated publicly, regarding one vital issue, that we now know better than the Bible, and he was not asked to withdraw that unwise comment, nor was he ruled out of order!

When the people asked for a king, Samuel was informed that it was not Samuel they were rejecting but God.

The people want a king, but they do not want it to be God.

They were looking for human solutions to their problems, but there are issues in life for which human solutions are inadequate.

People had unseated God from their lives, and instead of going to God and asking God to replace the ageing Samuel, they went to Samuel and asked him to replace God.

Israel was tired of being different. She was raised up and called to be a light to the gentile world.

Samuel was told to let the people have their king. Spell it out. It will be costly. The price will be high. Kings are expensive.

Pause, and consider the long term consequences.

From her birth, the Church of Jesus Christ was taught not to conform to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed, by having a radically different outlook and attitude.

We will be fashioned and shaped by one mould or another.
