Word from Nairnshire

Contagious

David is determined that he can defeat this giant Goliath, who is defying and mocking the army of the living God.

His courage had developed while looking after sheep in the harsh Judean wilderness. He knew that the enemy was not afraid of the flock and occasionally the shepherd had to deal with whatever dangers appeared.

The spiritual learning and discipline of our early years can be so vital.

David did not fritter away his time on superficial activities. What an advantage that can be later on.

David was not a hunter, but a shepherd. His objective was not to kill lions and bears, but to save sheep.

Sometimes we have to conquer our lion and our bear, before we can face our giant.

King Saul gives in to David and clothes him in his armour. Now, Saul meant well, but Saul was much taller than David, and David said “No” to the armour.

You cannot wear someone else’s armour, nor rely on their anointing.

This applies specifically to spiritual warfare. What worked for someone else may not work for you.

David took five smooth stones. He never once referred to Goliath by name.

David, do you see that his forehead is unprotected? Could you, with your sling, aim a stone at that area?

David, do you see his Achilles heel? It is just above his eyes!

This strategy meant that he did not come within the reach of Goliath’s massive sword and spear.

Height, strength, armour, bravado, and angry bellowing became irrelevant, when David did his stuff.

What was at stake here was the name of God, and giant killers seldom start out as giant killers.

God’s ways at times look silly and futile, but they work, and David’s victory was contagious.
