Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
It is not the first time this has happened, but it may be the last.
Bad leadership landed an entire nation in appalling circumstances, and those responsible for the disastrous situation are removed and replaced.
The new leader was young and inexperienced, but he realised what was at stake. Sorting out the mess was going to be extremely difficult, and would take time, because there were no apparent guidelines, and no foundation to build on.
In this desperate attempt to restore the nation, a copy of the Word of God was found in the Temple. God’s Word had been lost in the Temple.
When the Church of Jesus Christ loses the Word of God the nation soon crumbles. Make no mistake about that.
After eighteen years of looking for a solution, a copy of the Scriptures is unearthed from the Temple and given to the leader, who, being sincere and serious, realised what was happening. He wept and repented, humbling himself before Almighty God.
The condition of the nation was grim. The population had drifted far from God.
King Josiah was informed that because he had responded in such a spiritually positive and mature manner, the nation would be spared further judgment.
One entire generation experienced the grace of God, because of the repentance and integrity of one man.
One man or one group of men can bring a nation crashing. One man or one group of men can move the Hand of God to withhold judgment and show mercy.
We cannot control the way others respond to the grace of God, but we can control the way we respond and react to the grace of God.
Choose wisely. Will generations to come thank God for the choice you made and the legacy you left?
