Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
Two men met down at the beach. They were walking their dogs.
After a few minutes conversation, one man who had a fairly young dog asked his friend if he would like to see the new trick it could do, and the friend was really interested.
The man took a big stick and threw it spinning out over the water. The dog went after the stick, running across the top of the water, fetched it, and brought it back to his master.
As his friend appeared puzzled, the man took the stick and hurled it once more out to sea and off went the dog, running over the water to fetch the stick for his master.
“Did you not notice anything unusual?”
“Yes” came the reply. “Your dog can’t swim.”
How many people are there who miss the main point?
Jesus Christ spoke about people who can acquire so much, and have so much, and accumulate so much, and yet be unconcerned, impervious, and even careless about their spiritual future.
A very wealthy man, who had no interest whatsoever in Jesus Christ, or salvation, and having his sins forgiven, died, and when the question was raised as to how much he left, a reply was overheard, saying, “Everything!”
It is tragic to live life gaining so much in wealth, reputation, and position, but to have missed the whole point.
What good does it do to get everything you want and achieve every dream and goal you have, only to lose the real you?
Even in Jesus’ day people missed the whole point. They honoured him with their lips, but their hearts were far away. They acted as though they were worshipping, but they didn’t mean it.
Don’t die having missed what is crucially important.
