Endurance

One further area we consider in our search to become spiritually stronger and healthier, is that matter of perseverance.

It means, constant persistence, or having the steadfast pursuit of an aim.

If there is one thing we see in the lives of men like Moses, David, Isaiah and Jeremiah, it is perseverance, or endurance. Each knew what God wanted him to say and do, and they fulfilled their calling.

Paul speaks about going into strict training, controlling the body, and running so as to win the prize.

Near the end of his earthly life, Paul explains how he had fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.

If we do not keep the faith, it is unlikely that we will fight the good fight, or finish the race. Many give up! Might that be you?

God would have us be rooted and established and strengthened.

There is no need to be weak in the faith, and blown about all over the place like a slender reed in the wind.

Paul taught young pastor Timothy to teach sound doctrine, and exercise self control.

As we persevere, God will complete what He began.

Peter teaches that God’s divine power has given us everything we need, and Paul persevered even when he was hard pressed, crushed and persecuted.

It is so comforting to be able to commute between the teaching of Paul and Peter.

Paul spoke about persevering, as a soldier, and an athlete, and as a farmer. Now, that demands dynamic endurance.

It is so easy to give in.

Jesus Christ never gave in. He set His face to go to Jerusalem, to shed His blood on the Cross, as our Passover lamb, to wash away our sin. Are you not glad He did?
