Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
“We live in a day when we are more afraid of holiness than we are of sinfulness.”
That is an astonishing statement, but on considered reflection it happens to be true. We accommodate ourselves to iniquity and sin in all types of circumstances and surroundings.
How frequently do we hear of someone being described as holy?
Of all the duties enjoined by Jesus Christ none is more essential, and yet more neglected, than prayer.
It is axiomatic to say that you will never stumble as long as you are on your knees.
All we need is need, and we observe increasing need in these days.
A colleague used to gauge the size of the church by those attending the Prayer Meeting, and of course participating, and looking back there is no reason to challenge that.
There are presently groups of praying people across Scotland, praying regularly for revival, knowing that revival depends utterly upon the mercy and grace of our Creator God, and as disciples of Jesus Christ meet to pray specifically for revival they are deeply aware of a serious decline in vital vibrant faith.
To be much for God, we must be much with God.
There are times when we see Jesus, as that lone figure in the wilderness, who experienced strong crying, along with tears.
Can one be moved with compassion and not know tears?
Jeremiah was a sobbing saint. Jesus wept, as did Peter, Paul and John.
Weeping disciples, filled with the joy of Jesus Christ, is not a contradiction.
There are some tearful intercessors behind the scenes, and even when in a group, such activity remains away from the sight of most.
What burdens many is when they hear that in modern Christianity, praying is foreign.
Is that really true?
