Word from Nairnshire

Now that it is all over might there be at least one salutary lesson to be learned from the lead-up to the General Election?

Following that sad episode when the radio mike was left switched on, we read these words of Jesus that evening.

“There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms, will be proclaimed from the housetops.”

It pays to pay attention to what God says, no matter who you are.

We are taught that one day we will be answerable for every idle or careless word we have spoken.

Our words reflect the overflow of our hearts. Even Isaiah knew he was a man of unclean lips.

You may be sure that your sin will find you out. It is more serious than our sin being found out. We will be found out.

Character, integrity and sincerity are scarce commodities. These are so similar to the nine segments in the fruit of the Spirit. They can be developed and cultivated, but few of us find this easy.

The early church taught that controlling the tiny tongue is a challenge for most of us, all of the time.

A small rudder steers a large ship, and a great forest can be set on fire by one careless spark. Our tongue steers us, guiding us safely into the harbour, or shipwrecking our future.

The tongue can corrupt, spoil, and ruin the whole person, lighting a fire which is almost impossible to extinguish.

With regard to the ears of God, our microphone is switched on night and day, no matter where we go.
