Word from Nairnshire

Nothing could put Him off.

There came that point in the life of Jesus Christ when He set His face to go to Jerusalem.

The Son of God comes riding into Jerusalem hearing “Hosanna” which means “Save us now”. Within the week, Jesus would be betrayed, arrested, falsely accused, illegally tried, crucified, dead and buried.

It is a day of emotion, excitement, joy, sadness, rejoicing and weeping, with malice, envy and hatred.

Some two million people would be visiting Jerusalem, to celebrate the Feast of the Passover, remembering that night in Egypt, when a lamb was slain, so that the door posts could be marked with the blood of the lamb. The angel of death came and passed over the homes which had marked doors, in obedience to Moses’ command.

If they had ignored or rejected the words of Moses, there would be death in that household.

In the blood of the lamb they were safe, protected, covered. Inside the homes they were eating the lamb to be nourished and strengthened for the journey which lay in front of them.

In Jerusalem, one question was on everybody's lips, "Will Jesus appear?"

Yes, He turned up, to fulfill the words of the prophet Zechariah.

Jesus saw the city in front of Him and began to weep. Closed hearts and lives made the bravest man ever to live weep.

Having entered Jerusalem, Jesus now enters the Temple to drive out the moneychangers. No weak soft flabby love here.

These are the hands that touched lepers, blessed children, healed blind eyes. These same hands are overturning tables. Soon, they would take bread, lift a cup, then be pierced.

Jesus came not to overthrow the Roman Government, but sin in the church of the day.
