Indulgent
Date Posted: August 7, 2012

When King David was near to death there was a family explosion and that is one thing a man should avoid at all times, but particularly at such a moment in life.

David had been through a lot, and physically he was frail and fragile. He remains King of Israel and anointed of God, but nearing the end of his days upon the earth.

He had difficulties and trouble right to the very end. It is a sad tale.

One of his sons, Adonijah, makes a move to become king, and preens himself for that possibility.

His father had never disciplined him, trained him, discipled him, and brought him to heel.

Had David been an indulgent lenient parent? He was now reaping the harvest of undisciplined days?

Adonijah tried to bring both the army, and the church of the day, on board, to support his attempt at kingship. Such was the intrigue on-going within the palace walls.

David’s prophetic ‘minister’ Nathan speaks with his wife, Bathsheba, and they confront David with what is an ultimatum.

Deal with this potential disaster and have Solomon anointed king, and this David arranges.

It is the anointing that counts, and by whom, and on whose authority.

All this arose because of his neglect in previous days.

How many fathers have rued the day that they had failed to discipline their children, and to do so with grace, love, firmness and fairness?

God knew David inside out. David was normal. He was sensitive, impulsive, and occasionally full of passion. He experienced mood swings, sometimes losing it completely, and yet, God used him.

Jesus Christ came and wore our flesh, and redeemed it.

Jesus bought it back from that rascal, who robbed mankind in the garden, and Christ alone can repair it.
