Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
One stark fact the Bible is never afraid to address is the reality that one day each of us will die, unless Jesus Christ returns beforehand.
Moses described human life as being like dust, easily blown away, or like driftwood being swept away in a torrent of water.
We do not know where we will be next week, next month, next year.
Life is likened to a dream. We dream regularly, and soon the memory disappears, and often the sweeter the dream, the shorter it appears to be.
The Psalms picture life being like a desert where the grass is fresh and green in the morning but under the fierce sun it withers.
We are taught that the length of our days is seventy, or perhaps eighty, years.
Men are talking about making medical advances and living longer. God has set the limits and these cannot be changed.
God teaches us to appreciate and value our health and strength.
If you can walk and talk, if you are strong and healthy, give thanks to God for that today.
It is when our body no longer works that we may wish we had appreciated these days when everything was all right.
What happens after a certain time? We pant for breath and find it more difficult to move around. The senses start to fail and what we found no bother is no longer so easy. There is a crushing sense of weakness, as sin takes its inevitable toll.
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days, prayed Moses, who knew who he was from an early age.
Know Christ early. Come to faith in Jesus Christ soon. Do not delay.
