Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
Sleep is precious. A good sleep can be amazingly therapeutic.
The only creatures to have more trouble sleeping than we do are sheep. Everything has to be just right.
Wolves, insect pests, and hunger must be dealt with, and that is why a shepherd is needed to enable his flock to lie down in green pastures.
A good shepherd chooses the safest path, searches for nourishing pastures, and protects the sheep, who then only need to follow, eat, rest, and stay close and safe, under his watchful security.
A good shepherd leads his sheep.
Strong, powerful, gracious, concerned leaders are scarce.
Jesus Christ is not behind you shouting “Go!” He is in front of you, clearing any narrow path of obstacles that might trip you, or cause you to stumble and hurt yourself.
At a fork, He directs the correct route to take.
When it becomes steep and tricky, He whispers, “Now head up. Keep going. Watch your foot at that pothole”.
He promises a lamp for our feet as we take each step, and not a crystal ball laying out our entire future life.
There has been a lot of television recently about the jungle.
When we are out of ideas, energy, morality, money, and when hearts are aching with disappointment, worry and fear, that is a pretty rough jungle.
Man needs a Shepherd who is not confused, but who knows the way out.
When you have a Shepherd who is able to point you in the right direction and give light in the darkness, our emotional and physical wounds start healing as such therapeutic guidance leads to rest, peace and sleep.
Do not give up. There is a better situation than you are presently in, and Jesus Christ can lead you there.
