Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
People, especially those in the church, often say, “O, I wish I could be more like Jesus”, and perhaps there are those outside the church who quietly say that too. Why? Because he is a role model upon whom it is impossible to improve.
Jesus was never in a hurry. He never allowed those around him to pressure him into making sudden unwise decisions which might later be regretted.
Serious mistakes are frequently made when impatience forces a man to act.
Jesus took time to rest. Nobody was ever busier than Jesus Christ and no-one has ever had a more important job to do, and yet he said to His chosen disciples, “Come with me to a quiet place and get some rest”.
In those days everyone appeared to want him, now! He took time with his men and taught them the importance of rest. He knew that if you do not take time to receive then you have nothing to give.
Very few people have a Ph.D. in resting. There is a difference too between resting and wasting time.
Jesus never felt he had to prove Himself to any man, and he had strong advice for His disciples. Do not throw your pearls before pigs. What is precious could quickly be trampled into the mire.
Even on the Cross, Jesus would not be dictated to by those who wanted him to show who he was their way. “If you are the Son of God, come down.” Those around him could not intimidate him into altering his plans to suit their desires.
He had heard His Father say, “This is my beloved Son, and he pleases me”. What more could anyone ask for?
When you have that knowledge in your heart, nothing else really matters.
