Word from Nairnshire

Longing

David Hume, the philosopher, was hurrying along the streets of Edinburgh, when he was asked, where he was going.

“I am going to hear George Whitefield preach.”

“But you don’t believe a word George Whitefield preaches” retorted his inquisitor.

“No, but he does!”

People know when a man of God is for real. They certainly knew that when Jesus Christ walked onto the world’s stage.

Disciples were chosen and called, and they arose and followed.

Lepers were cleansed of that horrendous affliction, and bad spirits were cast out of demented men.

Hungry hearers were miraculously fed with a gift of bread and fish which appeared totally inadequate.

Religious leaders conspired to have this preacher silenced once and for all, and for a very short time they thought they had been successful.

A similar pattern was seen as soon as the risen and living and ascended Lord Jesus Christ birthed and launched the Church in a most unusual way and setting.

Within a few hours two main leaders were in a Jerusalem jail, as a result of being used by God to heal a cripple, and the younger of these two prisoners was back in jail some sixty years later.

Threatened authorities knew that these men were for real, and behind these persecutors was the enemy of God.

Why is such severe and fierce and violent persecution increasing in various parts of the world in these present days?

If Satan is not real, then who on earth is doing his work?

Man has an innate knowledge when he sees someone else walking with God and fellowshipping with God, because within a man there is that desire and longing to walk and fellowship with God.

That longing has been there since Creation, and it will not go away.
