Word from Nairnshire

Microcosm

That upper room where the disciples of Jesus assembled during the first part of Resurrection Day is a kind of microcosm of our present world. These men were permeated with a spirit of hopelessness.

If you need explanatory words just read of the two on the Emmaus Road that afternoon. They left the others. Had they had enough?

Those in Jerusalem thought they were the answer to the world’s problems.

It has been said often that God has no plan B.

On that Emmaus Road a figure approaches, draws near, engages these men in conversation, and within a couple of hours they know Jesus Christ is risen and alive.

They rush back to that Jerusalem room, when Jesus appears, and soon they cannot speak for joy and amazement.

Look again into that room. Surely this is the wrong street. We must have taken a wrong turning in the darkness, and knocked at the wrong door. These can’t be the same men.

“Sorry to intrude into your joyous party. Can you give us directions? We are looking for the followers of Jesus. They are a group of broken-hearted inconsolable men.”

Quietly the Holy Spirit prompts you to stay.

These are the men you are looking for. They have met the risen Christ, and He has breathed upon them.

God has taken their despair and defeat and buried it out of sight.

Our sin, our fear, our past, our shame, our stumbling into the unknown; Jesus Christ can take care of all of that!

One real glimpse of Christ, and you can become courageous and invincible.

Peter, here is hope when everything seems hopeless, courage when you feel terrified, and light when you are in darkness.

Here is forgiveness for all your bad blunderings.
