Word from Nairnshire
by Sandy Shaw
“It is a miracle!” We hear a lot about ‘miracles’ these days. We may even hear more about them over these next weeks and months.
What is a miracle? It is an event or incident that appears inexplicable by the laws of nature and so is held to be supernatural in origin or an act of God.
Moses saw a bush that was burning but not being destroyed, and when he investigated that phenomenon, his life, and the history of the world, was transformed.
A rod becomes a snake and returns to a rod, when Moses acts as God directs him.
His hand becomes leprous and is restored. Water, which was to be taken from the Nile and poured out onto the ground, would become blood.
Further miracles occurred under Moses powerful leadership. They happened when he spoke with the authority of God, as reassuring and confirming signs that this man came from Almighty God.
After Jesus was baptised in water and in the Holy Spirit, miracles started operating through His dynamic ministry.
The deaf could hear. The blind could see. That paralysed man was forgiven, released, and enabled to walk. Needy hungry ones were fed and satisfied. Storms ceased when Jesus spoke to winds and demoniacs.
What is a miracle? When children asked me what a miracle was I tried to define it in three words - God at work.
Nowhere is the miraculous more clearly seen than when a man or woman experiences that new life which Jesus came to give us.
When a man is born again that is one powerful miracle. He is a new creation.
The past is forgiven and erased, and as he remains obedient to Jesus his future is directed and guided by the living God.
