Guidance is one of the most vital issues in our lives, no matter what age we might be, but it is always wise to receive sound guidance as early as possible, and particularly in the areas of vocation and marriage.

Following the death of King Saul, David was now the man who would assume authority and leadership in the nation.

This could sound such a romantic story. Shepherd boy becomes king. Youngest son is anointed of God.

There are those who consider the days of the Covenanters, around these parts, to have been romantic times to serve the living God.

Being hunted by soldiers and hiding under bridges in cold water, while bleeding, is a very different reality.

It was now David. He was the man. What was David to do?

He enquired of God. In other words, he prayed. He asked God for specific guidance.

On being told to go up to one of the cities of Judah, he wanted detailed instruction, and Hebron was indicated.

He had to be sure. He took time to check with God.

The consequences of taking a wrong turning can be disastrous. Avoid uncorroborated decisions whenever possible.

David was a man who knew the importance and significance of worship.

As we worship, and seek God, and commune and fellowship with Him, God communicates.

A man may think he is becoming a bit of a pest asking for specific and detailed direction.

Before Jesus Christ chose His disciples He spent the whole night in prayer, talking and communing with His heavenly Father.

At Antioch, it was as men prayed and fasted that the Holy Spirit spoke and a new dimension of mission was launched.

Do you think God would ever say, “Off you go. Don’t bother Me!” Never!
