This teenager, Daniel, with royal blood in him, is taken off in chains to a land, a thousand miles away, and for the next seventy years he was an imprisoned captive, but living a remarkably rewarding life.

A despotic king had invaded his country and took off the cream of the nation first, to Babylon – modern day Iraq.

Young Daniel had everything going for him. He was handsome, intelligent, with a good education, and he is set to go to the top, which he reached, but in very different circumstances.

Nebuchadnezzar invaded Judah, and destroyed Jerusalem. Now, you have to be bold to touch Jerusalem – and unwise!

God allowed this tyrant to overrun Jerusalem. Why? This was where the Temple was, and this was where God chose to display His presence.

“Lord, what are You doing?”

Israel had had bad rulers, and prophetic men, sent by Almighty God, told the people that if they did not change they would have to leave.

Nebuchadnezzar sought to destroy Jerusalem and God, and all things Hebrew and kingly, but what actually happened was that God moved to Babylon!

Four young men were taking the living God, the only God there is, into pagan Babylon.

Nebuchadnezzar wanted these four clever chaps to become his counsellors, as he saw they had fine qualities and characteristics which he could use, but first he decided to have them brainwashed, with the intention that they had to forget about their own land, their own people, and their own God. That was an impossible aim.

They would remind him of the real true God.

Nebuchadnezzar wanted to obliterate Almighty God and His holy word. That has been the goal of many leaders, since Moses was born.

Do we see a parallel today?
